Research
The
Kent Police Museum provides a service for any research of family
history enquiries. The services are available by contacting the
museum curator either by phone on 01634-403260, by E-mail to
or by writing to Anna Derham, Museum Curator, Kent Police Museum,
The Historic Dockyard, Chatham, Kent, ME4 4TE.
Personnel records of Kent Police Officers, from 1857, are held
for us at The Centre for Kentish Studies, County Hall, Maidstone,
Kent, but the curator will travel there to carry out research on
your behalf.
However, the records for the autonomous police forces within the
County of Kent, were sent to make paper for the war effort, in 1943.
Therefore we have no personnel records of Canterbury, Deal, Dover,
Faversham, Folkestone, Gravesend, Hythe, Maidstone, Margate, Ramsgate,
Rochester, Sandwich, Tenterden or Tunbridge Wells officers.
The
charge for family research is £25, to be paid in Sterling.
This is to cover travel to Maidstone, car parking and for hours
worked. There is no guarantee that the details you seek will be
included in the records, but every effort will be made to find your
information.
Photographs are available, but we do not always have the identity
of the person shown. If there is a picture you would like, we charge
£10 sterling for a copy.
All cheques should be made payable to 'Kent Police'
NOT the Museum.
Data Protection
The release of information is strictly controlled. Nothing is released
on personnel who are still living unless permission is granted by
the individual, giving written authority to release such information.
