My father was at Police Headquarters and then was County Bobby in Chart Sutton, from there we emigrated to Canada in 1958. His name was Larry (Lawrence Stanley) Mortimer. I will be coming back for a visit next year and would love to come and see my old homestead. My family used to live right at police headquarters prior to moving to Chart Sutton. I will bring some pictures with me for your archives.hope to meet you next April. Perhaps you will still have record of my fathers service.thank you

Webmaster comments   Hi Penny,
We have your father's record, it is held for us at the Centre for Kentish Studies, County Hall, Maidstone. They show he resigned in March 1958 with his character as "Exemplary".
I look forward to meeting you next April

Hi John,
Where are the pics of the refurbished Ford Granada that I saw on SE News? I have an old photo of CB60 from 1988/89 you may be interested in, B977 WKJ. Best car I ever drove in the Force but always breaking down. If you email me I can send you an email image and drop in sometime with the original if you are interested.

Webmaster comments   Hi David,
There are two great pictures in the scrolling news part of the home page, before and after.
If you watch, 'Police,Camera, Action' at all, you will see that car being used in a stop and check sequence we filmed this month.
As regards the picture, of course we welcome all pictures for our archive. We shall soon have some more pictures in the galleries, so keep watching.
Drop in when I am here on Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday afternoons, the kettle is always on!

Dear John
Funnily enough the first message I saw on this page was exactly what I was looking for. My G.G.Grandfather was Thomas Ray and I am researching the family history. I too was hoping to find out something about his career in the police force as he started out as a warehouse man in London. Presumably after he married he was looking for a better job. My Nan has a photo of him in uniform that I may be able to get hold of if your interested.

Webmaster comments   Hi Karen,
This is amazing. The Woodchurch group asked me for a picture, so if you had one, perhaps we might copy it, and then the picture would be on display at their exhibition.
many thanks

Dear John

The Woodchurch Ancestry Group is planning an exhibition - to be held on 12 July 2008 - focussing on village life in the census year of 1871. Thomas RAY, aged 36 from Tudeley, was the resident police constable at the time. We should be extremely grateful for any additional information on him and his service with the Kent police force.

Kind regards

Webmaster comments   Hi Angie,
I am pleased that we were able to assist with this. We can always research for people who are unable to get to Maidstone Archives, but I am sure you had great pleasure upon reading your G/Grandfather's service records. If you e-mail the picture to me, I will do my best to try and identify the officers for you.
